PageRank – Described

PageRank, also known as PR or Page Rank, is an algorithmically based method used by Google Search to rate web pages on their search results pages. PageRank is said by Google to be a way of ranking web pages according to their relevance to the keywords used in searching for websites. Google claims that each web page is linked to a site that is relevant to the one who linked to it. Google claims that each link from a non-relevant site to a relevant site will count as a “one-way” link to the relevant site. Thus a higher PageRank allows a site to have higher search engine placement. pagerank is an excellent resource for this.

The purpose of Google PageRank in determining the SEO success of a site lies in understanding how important links are to search engines. According to Google: “In general, the more the number of inbound links to a page (also known as the quality score), the better the page ranks. At the same time, the absolute number of inbound links to a page does not necessarily affect rankings. PageRank helps us understand which sites are most relevant for a given query by calculating the total number of inbound links for every indexed page and ranks pages accordingly.”

The importance of PageRank in determining the SEO success of web pages can be understood only with the help of an example. Suppose there is a company called Page1 and the company want to get its web pages ranked high on the Google search engine result pages (SERPs). To achieve this goal Google has divided the web pages into twenty categories. The company has built a special website for each of the twenty categories. Now if it wants to achieve success in SEO, it should first submit its website to the Google pagerank category where Page is placed.
